Training
The Child HELP Partnership approach to training is based on current science about how people learn best. Our comprehensive approach to training involves 3 steps:
- Readings on the intervention, which could include PowerPoint slides, articles, or online presentations.
- Live learning sessions delivered by CHP leadership on the intervention, using interactive techniques such as group brainstorming and roleplays.
- Consultation meetings, in which trainees give case presentations on their use of the intervention with clients and receive feedback on their approach.
In our “Train-the-Trainer” program, trainees learn how to train others (e.g., facilitate workshops, supervise consultation meetings). This allows the services and interventions to be deployed to many more children and increase sustainability.
We monitor the quality of our training by measuring participants’ knowledge, behavior, and satisfaction at each stage of training.
Below are specific training steps for each CHP service and intervention.
Trauma 101:
This introduction to trauma is for professionals, school staff, parents, and students to increase their understanding of basic trauma principles.
- Training
- PowerPoint slides discussed in a 45-minute live workshop

- Train-the-Trainer
- CHP staff observe trainees facilitating the workshop in their community and provide feedback
Trauma-Specific Assessment:
This is a series of workshops on methods and measures used to assess trauma and associated mental health problems in children.
- Training
- PowerPoint slides discussed in a 1-hour live workshop that includes specific strategies and roleplaying of those strategies
- Webinars on intervention-specific measures, including sample items, scoring, and interpretation

- 9 consultation meetings to review SPR modules, discuss delivery options, and have trainees present implementation of the intervention with actual clients
- Train-the-Trainer

Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT):
TF-CBT is an individual and family treatment for children who have been traumatized and their non-offending caregivers.
- Training
- Completion of TF-CBT Web 2.0
- 14-hour in-person or virtual learning session during which TF-CBT components are modeled and practiced
- 12 consultation meetings in which cases are presented and discussed
- Following these steps and completion of three cases of TF-CBT, trainees can apply for certification in the intervention

- 12 consultation meetings in which cases are presented and discussed
- Following these steps and completion of two cases of AF-CBT to fidelity, trainees can apply for certification in the intervention
- Train-the-Trainer
